A domestic violence order is a civil matter (not a criminal matter like assault or battery) until the order is violated. It is a hybrid between family law and criminal law. If a person is threatening you, we can help you put a domestic violence injunction (also called a restraining order or protective order) in place. This prevents that person from contacting you or going to your place of business. As long as the person doesn't disobey the order, the case stays in the family law arena. If it is violated, criminal charges may be filed.
